Farewell Summer, Hello Fair Haven Fireman’s Fair

Aug. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- The summer is coming to an end (sniff, sniff).  But no need to get weepy when the Fair of Fairs is right around the corner. The Fair Haven Fireman’s Fair is not only the largest Fireman’s Fair in New Jersey, it's one of the best.  And it starts this Friday!

With roots back to 1906, this is also one of the oldest fairs.  In its early days the talk of the town was the automobile raffle, with the prize prominently displayed in front of the firehouse for months before the fair began. There’s no car raffle this year, but there is a 50-50 raffle, which hit $20,000 last year. (Not too shabby.)

That’s not all that makes this fair unique.  Sure kids love the Ferris Wheel, and the Rainbow Ride and Zipper are always crowd pleasers, but this fete even sports bumper cars and a miniature golf course.  And, although many of the rides are for the 7 and up set, there’s plenty to keep youngsters busy, including a merry-go-round, train and — the kiddie highlight — a ride on a real fire truck.

Dinner is served in a sit down dinning area — and we hear the seafood is to die for. Have no fear, there’s also food any picky eater will love, including hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy and ice cream.  And for the ‘rents, the beer garden makes this event that much more fun.

So wear your “fair best” (this is an event to see and be seen), and give the summer a proper send off. Going back to school might not seem quite so bad with this night out as a last hurrah.
