Men are keen to know about Family Background whereas Women look for Profession

Aug. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- New Delhi, xx August, 2010: A recent survey by Jeevansathi.com on Preference trends of unmarried men and women when looking for their life partners revealed that Family Background(Caste, Mother Tongue etc.) and Physical Appearance are key factors considered by men in arranged marriages. A similar survey with women revealed that Profession and Education are key factors taken into account and physical appearance is the least considered factor when looking for prospective grooms.

Commenting on the findings of the study Rohit Manghnani, Business Head at Jeevansathi.com said,” In the changing era of arranged marriages it is very astonishing to find that caste and family background continue to play such an important role in arranged marriages. The primary reason for this mindset among men would be parents consent. Women on the other hand are very particular about a secure life which is why profession and education are key factors taken into consideration by them.”

The survey has seen participation of around 5000 Jeevansathi.com members. Of the male respondents who took the survey 49% said that family background of the bride is a key factor considered by them when looking for a life partner. Physical Appearance of the girl also emerges as an important factor under consideration with 48% of men recommending the same. The least considered factors are Education and Profession.

Among the women who responded to the survey 53% feel that education and profession are the most important factors that need to be considered when looking for their match. Caste/Family Background emerges as the second most preferred factor for women and physical appearance seems to the least relevant attribute.
