Moving Mom and Dad - Saving Employers Time and Money

Senior Move Managers (cSMM) Not Only Provide A Great Benefit to Senior Adults When Utilized For The Moving and Downsize Process, cSMM's Can Also Help Reduce Employee Loss Time and Costs For Employers

Aug. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Although the Senior Move Management industry is fairly new to many, Senior Move Managers (cSMM) not only provide a great benefit to the increasing senior adult population but, when utilized can provide significant cost savings to employers.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company recently released their latest survey of lost employee productivity related to senior care needs.  The survey revealed an estimated cost of lost employee time between $17.1 and $33.6 billion per year --astounding numbers; however, those of us in the senior services industry can attest to the time and energy needed to care for our senior loved ones and clients.  Extremely rewarding and needed but caring for our loved ones can also be very complex and consuming.

There are hundreds of senior move managers (cSMM) whom senior adults and their families can call upon to assist them with the moving and downsizing process.  A cSMM brings a great deal of expertise to the process; thereby reducing the cost associated with a senior move for the client.

As each cSMM and their business model is unique, the following details are not representative of every cSMM.  Tasks associated with a senior move and downsize project and utilized for this comparison were:  floor planning, sort and clear old home items, packing items for move, prepare items for sale, charity delivery, truck load/unload, new home setup and clean old home.  The average amount of time it take an employee, or child/caregiver of the senior adult to accomplish the above tasks is approximately 251 hours or 31 days (8 hour day).  The average amount of time is takes a cSMM to accomplish the same tasks is approximately 73 hours or 9 days.  For this comparison, the total time savings to the employer for lost employee time is 178 hours or 22 days.

As denoted previously, each senior move and downsize situation is unique with the need for special consideration to be given but with the increasing senior population and the sandwiching of baby-boomer children between their parents needs and the needs of their own children becoming more prevalant, maybe employers should quickly begin discussing strategies on how to best assist their employees with this ever-increasing situation.
