The Puppy Mill Project Calls for Moratorium on Shipping of Unattended Puppies

If American Airlines Cannot Identify the Cause of Death why Is It Still Transporting Unattended Puppies?

Aug. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL/USA ...Cari Meyers founder of The Puppy Mill Project called for a moratorium today on the shipping of unattended puppies by American Airlines and other air carriers.

The call for a moratorium was triggered by the  American Airlines announcement that while “heat may have been a factor for the death of 7 puppies that the findings of  the necropsy reports were inconclusive.”

Meyers says,  “If American Airlines cannot identify the reason or reasons for the deaths of the puppies it was transporting , than the airline industry should not continue to transport unattended puppies until it understands what went wrong. “

Meyers believes that American Airlines and other air carriers should act responsibly and not expose puppies to suffering and death through unattended shipping..

Once a reason or reasonsare found  that caused the deaths of the puppies  American Airlines should take appropriate action to  prevent future unattended puppy and dog deaths from occurring.

The puppies were part of a larger shipment of puppies that arrived at O’Hare International Airport from an Oklahoma Commercial Breeder that many believe is a puppy mill.  It is the practice of this type of breeder to sell puppies online and ship their products unattended to consumers.

The Organization defines unattended, "As puppies or dogs being shipped  in the baggage compartment of an air carrier without an owner or someone who is responsible for the animal(s) riding as a passenger in the same plane."

The Puppy Mill Project   was created in September of 2009.

The organization is a leader in the fight against puppy mills and the pet shops and Internet sites whose puppies originate from puppy mills.

One of the organization's primary missions is educating the public about what puppy mills really are and the direct connection to the pet stores, the internet ads and the newspaper ads that sell these puppies that come from "canine hell."

The Puppy Mill Project also supports state and federal legislation that protects dogs from the inhumane treatment they receive in puppy mills.

Along with many community events they also organize demonstrations against businesses that sell puppy mill dogs. The organization's website is: www.thepuppymillproject.org
