SkateAmerica: Enjoy Skateboarding Without the Risk

Skateboarding is one of the most challenging and enjoying sport ever created. It was discovered in the late 1940s or sometime early in the 1950s when people from California wanted something to surf with when the waves were flat.

Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- Although no one really knows who created the first board, people seemed to have the idea all at the same time. Through the years, skateboarding rapidly became very popular and new stunts and tricks were developed making the sport more and more risky. Skaters are now very prone to different kinds of serious injuries. While some take the risk, there are as much people who are eager to try the sport but are hindered by the threat. Here’s the good news! There is only one word you need to remember: Prevention.

First let us identify the most common injuries in skateboarding. Number one on the list (and the most minor, too) is Scrape. This can happen during a crash and even before a crash. Another is Broken Bones. The common sites getting injured are hands and elbows as skaters use them to cushion their crash. Lastly, the most severe types are head and neck injuries because they mostly damage the spine leading to disabilities.

Now how do we avoid these? Alertness is very important. Even in everyday walking, if you are not aware of your surroundings, an injury may happen. Read on these simple tips to lessen the risks:

•   Before leaving home, inspect your skateboard. Check the trucks and wheels if they are on their proper placement and if they function well.

•   Always wear protective gear. Riding with complete protection does not mean that you are not brave enough because even pro-skaters comply with proper protection. Select gears which fit perfectly. Do not use anything which blocks your sight or makes you uncomfortable. Make sure you use quality gears. Find equipments from local stores or better yet check online stores. They have bigger inventories and wider selection like http://www.skateamerica.com/service/aboutus.cfm which offers equipments from top brands.

•   Do a scene survey. Inspect your surroundings. Never ride on a bumpy surface which has rocks, holes, and rough ground. Here’s the trick, imagine yourself skating along your target place and try to assume what may or may not happen.

•   Assess your skill level. Review the tricks you can and cannot do. But if you think you are just a step to finally perfecting that flip you’ve been practicing then go for it.

•   Injuries most of the time occur during a fall. Learn how to fall properly from different kinds of stunts you perform. During incidents when you feel like you’re losing balance, crouch down on the skateboard to lessen your distance from the ground making lesser impact.

Everything we do has risks; safety is a matter of awareness about them and the measures you are willing to do to prevent them. Skateboarding is a very enjoyable sport but it is always important to prioritize your own safety. From all of us here at http://www.skateamerica.com/service/index.cfm. Be safe and have a nice ride!
