ARCpoint of Columbia Announces On-Site Drug Testing Services

As drug users get more savvy with cheating drug tests, businesses turn to ARCpoint of Columbia’s on-site drug testing services.

Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- ARCpoint of Columbia, a full-service drug testing facility offering accurate, reliable and confidential drug testing and background checks, announces it now provides on-site testing services. Random, on-site drug testing is one very effective method employers, judicial bodies and athletic programs can use to combat those looking to cheat a drug test.

“We regularly catch people at our office for having a specimen that doesn’t meet temperature requirements or is too diluted to test accurately,” says Jody Henry, President and CEO of ARCpoint of Columbia.  “Random testing is one of the biggest deterrents to drug use in the workplace.  Additionally, organizations that use on-site drug testing create an environment that prevents individuals from having the time to prepare and attempt to cheat a test.  We’ve seen people do a lot of creative things to try to pass a drug test.”

All one has to do is Google “how to cheat a drug test” to see how popular this topic is. Some of the more common methods drug test cheats use to foil a test are attempting to dilute or “flush” the system before the test, attempting to substitute urine with that of another, attempting to use a synthetic form of urine, or purchasing substances over the internet that can be added to urine to give a false negative result. "The bottom line is toxicologists are smarter than drug abusers," says Amitava Dasgupta, PhD, a professor of pathology and drug testing expert from the University of Texas-Houston Medical Center. "If you try to cheat on a drug test, we will catch you."  But many may also not know that attempting to cheat a drug test is considered a criminal offense in the state of South Carolina, with pretty steep penalties – including fines and imprisonment - if one is caught and convicted.

According to recent statistics published by the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately 2.9 million people tried illegal drugs for the first time in 2008, with marijuana being the overwhelming drug of choice.   It’s also estimated that American businesses lose $81 billion each year due to employee drug use, which translates into increased absenteeism and worker’s comp claims, higher health care costs and lost productivity for employers.
