The Experts 3 Step System for Getting the Most Out of Your Fitness Club Membership

For the same money you are currently paying for your fitness club membership, you can lose more weight, gain more muscle, and prevent injury with this simple system.

Aug. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Burbank,CA., August 16, 2010 – In today’s difficult economic environment it is more important than ever for Americans to maximize the value received for each dollar spent, and this includes their fitness club membership.  It is a fitness industry secret that only a fraction of the people with fitness club memberships actually make it to the club on a regular basis.   If you are paying for a membership doesn’t it make sense that you should be getting every dollars worth out of it?

Recognizing the challenges that fitness club member’s face in this area, Burbank, California based fitness trainer Scott Yonehiro developed a simple three step system to help fitness club members get the most for their membership dollars.

Step 1:  Set goals.  Going through this process prompts you to evaluate your current physical condition, create an ideal vision of what you want to accomplish, and develop a detailed plan for getting there.  Once your ideal fitness vision has been committed to paper, ask yourself the following questions:

1.  Are these goals realistic based on your previous health and fitness history?
2.  Do you know the exact steps necessary to reach these goals?
3.  By what date do you want to accomplish these goals?
4.  How will you reward yourself when you have achieved these goals?

Remember that your vision and goals do not change although your method of achieving them may.  For example, let’s say that you want to loose 20 pounds so you decide to run every day. A week into your program you realize that your ankles are too sore to continue.  You don’t quit at that point, you simply switch to a different cardiovascular exercise that doesn’t hurt your ankles.  Your goals and vision don’t change.  This is the key to following through and obtaining results.

Step 2:  Track down a personal trainer. Most fitness clubs offer a free session with one of their trainers and the time spent can pay dividends in several different ways. First, they can teach you how to use the machines with proper form to keep you from getting injured. Second, they can help you plan workout programs; suggest different exercises to help you meet your goals. Third, they can help keep you motivated after your initial enthusiasm wears off. It goes without saying that you should stay away from anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable by being pushy, who fails to listen to your goals, or refuses to answer your questions.

Step 3:  Locate a buddy to workout with.  If you decide to skip the personal trainer route this is the next best way to stay motivated and on track. Whether you meet them at the club, or bring them along, having someone to workout with is always a good idea. This is very important because when you have friends at the gym it turns your workout into a social event or an opportunity to network. And the more reasons you have to come into the gym, the more likely you are to show up consistently, use your membership, and get results. What is important to remember at this step is finding a partner who is as serious about working out as you are. Having a workout partner can sometimes be a double edged sword. You have to remember that if they flake out on you, that's not a pass for you to skip the workout all together.
