7 Year Old Tap Prodigy, Luke Spring, Wowed the Crowd Tonight on Finale of So You Think You Can Dance
7 year old, Luke Spring, who made his tap dancing national debut only 5 months ago, performed a live tap solo on So You Think You Can Dance tonight.
“We’re so excited and proud of Luke,” exclaims Studio Bleu Dance Center owner and tap teacher, Kimberly Rishi, “To be a featured soloist on the nation’s #1 dance show is an amazing accomplishment for any dancer...but to be only 7 years old...WOW!”
Spring began tap dancing at the tender age of 4. Excited by the movie “Happy Feet,” Luke found a pair of tap shoes in the Studio Bleu Dance Center’s Lost and Found box and began making noise with his feet. The rest is history. Spring made his tap debut at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts on March 26, 2010 during the 2nd Annual DC Tap Fest where he performed an acapella tap number. Stunning the crowd, he received a standing ovation and within hours his dance was seen around the world via the internet. Within the last 5 months, Spring has competed in numerous local and national dance competitions consistently placing first and has been a featured performer on “Fox and Friends” and “Ellen.”
Luke is not the only dancer in the Spring family. His sister, Cami (17) recently won the Future Star Award at the Revolution National Dance Competition and will be featured in an upcoming issue of Dance Spirit Magazine. Lucy (15) also won top honors at the Revolution National Dance Competition, receiving First Place Overall in the Teen Solo Category.
In addition to tap dancing, Luke also enjoys playing the drums and art, especially drawing and designing tap and tennis shoes.
