Aug. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Sherwood Park, AB – Jesse Willms announced yesterday that he has made a $1,000 personal donation to the Kiva Foundation in order help their mission of improving lives through micro-lending.

“I’ve always been dedicated to helping charitable donations that really make a difference,” Willms said. “I've seen first hand how Kiva helps people improve their lives while keeping their pride and expanding their horizons.”

The Kiva Foundation is a non-profit group that makes “micro-loans” to small entrepreneurs around the world. These loans help people in impoverished and challenged nations start their own companies and become independent members of an emerging business community.

“The fact is that these people could never get a loan from a traditional bank, but with Kiva they can now see their dreams come true and turn their business vision into a reality,” Willms said. “When you let people take charge of their future you give them hope. What's remarkable is how little they need to get started compared with how much they stand to profit in the long run.”

Willms has always understood the entrepreneurial spirit. He started his first business when he was 16 years old. Since then he has started several companies that became successful businesses.

“Life isn't just about making a profit, it's about making a difference,” Willms said. “I've built a good life for myself. Now, it's time for me to help other people realize their hopes and dreams.”

The Kiva Foundation has made over $150 million worth of micro-loans to nearly 400,000 entrepreneurs. Over 80 percent of the entrepreneurs it has helped are women, and their repayment rate is just under 99 percent.

“When you give people hope, you give them dignity and when you give them the chance to succeed you give them a future,” Willms said.
