Atlanta Ballet to Celebrate Grand Opening with Open House Festival

Aug. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- For more than 80 years, Atlanta Ballet has wowed audiences with an eclectic repertoire spanning ballet history, highlighted by beloved classics and inventive originals. Now the world -class company has a world-class facility to match!

On Saturday, August 14, Atlanta Ballet will officially raise the curtain on its new headquarters, the Michael C. Carlos Dance Centre, in West Midtown.  

The building, almost twice the size of its West Peachtree Street predecessor, will be the permanent home for the professional company and its nationally respected Centre for Dance Education. It will also serve as a unique resource for the not-for-profit performing arts community, offering special event, rehearsal and performance space.

Day-long festivities to include:
•   Docent led tours of the facility
•       Costume & Scenery Exhibition
•   Performances by Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Ballet’s Centre for Dance Education and various other Atlanta arts & dance organizations, including:

o   Empire D Hip Hop Dance Company
o   Zoetics Dance Ensemble
o   Atlanta Dream Shooting Stars Cheer Team
o   Manga African Dance Company
o   Atlanta Chinese Dance Company
o   King O’Sullivan School of Irish Dance
o   Kennesaw State University Dance Department
o   SALSAtlanta

•   Free mini classes, workshops and demonstrations:
o   Ballet, Hip-Hop for Kids and Salsa mini-classes
o   Break dancing demonstration
o   Acting & voice workshop and musical theatre demonstration

•   Kids’ activities
•   Open registration for all Centre for Dance Education classes

Saturday, August 14, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Ribbon cutting with Mayor Kasim Reed at 10:30 a.m.)
Sunday, August 15, 1 – 4 p.m. (Centre for Dance Education Open House)

The Atlanta Ballet box office will be open with special ticket offers for the upcoming 2010-11 season, including the highly-anticipated season opener of “Moulin Rouge® – The Ballet.”

The open house is free and open to the public.
