One Year of Deviance FM, So Far So Good

Aug. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Well, it has been a year officially this station has been running under the name “Deviance FM.” I know because I am renewing the domain name. The one of biggest questions I have gotten over time was “Why did you name it Deviance? That sounds wrong or something perverted or adult content or is that a porn site ... (the list goes on you can add OMGs and WTFs where ever you choose.)” It is not really a case of wrong or perversions or even “XXX” content.
On occasion I do talk about adult topics, this is where the confusion comes in. Adult topics come in many categories, from political stance, religious opinions, dietary preference or if there is life on other planets.
Deviance is an odd word with many different meanings, but the base meaning is acting outside socially accepted norms. This now means I have to define “Socially Accepted Norms” before I can fully define “Deviance”
Socially Accepted Norms are good things in most cases. It is what holds modern societies together and what keeps us from grabbing the closest blunt object and pounding an annoyance into something of a less annoying form. However, “Social Norms” are “man-made” and therefore a completely artificial system made to govern our inactions with each other.  This system governs almost every aspect of your life from “Using Toilet Paper” vs “Using Leaves” to wipe your rear with or “Blowing Your Nose in public” vs “Picking Your Nose in public”.
What is frightening about this is we as a whole tend to be unmindful about it. We are conditioned as children so these socially accepted norms become second nature and we tend not to notice. We really do not think about it, we react to it with our conditioned responses. We stigmatize, ostracize in some cases become vocal about something some did or is doing.
We do this unconsciously because that is the way we are and were conditioned…

Deviance is viewed two ways;
1.   “OMG, WTF, Bad person alert stay away from them or bash the heck out of them till they conform to what I think is right”
2.   A force for change

   Depending on the conditioning in most cases it is a mob mentality that follows the first view. This leads to certain types of social groups that is well let’s take racist groups for instance because that’s one of the most extreme ends of the spectrum. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Mohandas Gandhi, and so on, basically anyone involved with racial equality, abolishing of slavery, even the founding of the USA were all examples of “Deviance” and
because they went outside socially accepted norms, the world was changed.
Some think for the better, others think for the worse and because they are both on opposite sides they call each other Deviant factions.
   I am not saying I am same liege as those as those mentioned names above, but I do believe I am one that accepts deviance as a force for change and I believe everyone should be able to express their views in public. I just wanted to make a place where these views can be shared expressed and examined by all.
   Although, I need to mention one warning here by expressing your views here your views will be commented on by everyone else’s and they will probably use their views opinions and yes, deviant ideas about your views.
