Aug. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- WHAT:    At the Kennel Club International Agility Festival, Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, people from 7 to 70 will be demonstrating the huge health benefits of Getting Fit with Fido.

Kennel Club research has revealed that one in four dogs and one in three dog owners are overweight and one in five Brits are too lazy to take their dogs for the recommended daily walk .

WHO:    Interview people from the East Midlands, East Anglia and worldwide who have stories about the benefits of the sport.
•   Agility helped amazing Peggy Lewis, 79, from Northampton to get fighting fit again after her hip operation.
•   Agility helped 62 year old Anne Cairney from Nottingham to stop smoking and lose over a stone in weight.
•   Nine year old Adam Stretton from Cambridgeshire says agility keeps his dog fit and him ahead of his friends on school sports days!
•   16 year old Joshua, from Leicestershire, says that while many in his age group are being criticised for playing video games, agility helps him and his dog stay fit and nimble.
•   Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary who will talk about the dog health benefits of the sport, the worrying trend that is seeing people exercising their pets less and how people can get involved in agility.
•   European Open Agility Championships silver medal winner, Lucy Osborne, from Lincolnshire.
•   Agility expert Lee Gibson will be on hand to answer all of your agility related questions.

TRY:    Take the Get Fit with Fido challenge in the agility ‘have a go ring’ and see your calories burn with the calorie counter. You can even go head to head with and take tips from the European Open Agility Championships silver medal winner, Lucy Osborne from Lincolnshire. Purina Pro Plan will be hosting a stand at the event, attractions will include doggie paddling pools and ‘spin the wheel’ to win prizes.

Agility now has more than 24,000 doggie followers and is the fastest growing dog sport in the UK. People can burn around 260 calories per one hour training session. During a weekend competition this can amount to more than 1,000 calories. There are now 310 Kennel Club registered agility clubs throughout the UK so anybody can get involved.
