The Metabolism Miracle, Not Calorie Counting, Promotes Weight Loss for Millions!

Millions of dieters cannot succeed with weight loss based on a genetic predisposition to metabolic syndrome (Metabolism B). They produce excess fat gain hormone, insulin. Calorie based, low fat diets will not promote long term weight loss

Over 50% of overweight people have the genetic predisposition to metabolic syndrome and cannot lose weight or maintain their health on traditional low calorie, low fat diets.
Medical researchers are beginning to recognize that traditional low- calorie, low fat/low cholesterol diets may not be the best answer to the growing epidemics of obesity and diabetes.

After more than 50 years of medical consensus regarding the best way to lose weight, the medical community is now questioning whether the traditional diet tenets of decreased calories, fat, and cholesterol might be fueling the increase in obesity and diabetes.  This week, the CDC reported that the epidemic of obesity is even worse than reported with over 68% of Americans considered overweight or obese.  For the first time ever, the number of those considered obese has outnumbered those considered overweight.

It appears that over 50% of overweight people have the genetic predisposition to metabolic syndrome (also known as Metabolism B).  This genetically- mediated syndrome has a common denominator; the over-release of the fat- gain hormone insulin in response to 24 hour/day blood sugar fluctuations.  The Met B pancreas releases excess insulin in response to blood sugar rise from food (carbohydrate) and from liver sugar release that naturally occurs when a person delays a meal or when he sleeps.  Excess insulin causes excess fat deposits “in” and “on” the body.  Metabolic syndrome (Metabolism B) is progressive and causes slow but sure increases in midline fat, cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure and blood sugar.

It is not necessarily calories, fat or cholesterol that is responsible for a person with Met B’s weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides….it is excess insulin release in response to the body’s blood sugar peaks and valleys.  Even if a dieter adhered to a 1400 calorie, low fat diet, the 60% of calories coming from carbohydrate could cause the dieter to gain fat and circulating blood lipids while dieting. This explains why some people do well with a calorie based weight loss diet, but over 50% have no long term success with the same diet.

Aside from the medical consequences of high insulin release, a person with Met B also suffers from the following subclinical symptoms: fatigue, waking up feeling tired, energy slump between 3-5PM, carb cravings, belly fat, very easy weight gain and difficult weight loss, depression, irritability, short fuse, inability to focus/concentrate, poor short term memory, decreased libido, transient blurry vision and night driving haze.

What component of our food intake stimulates insulin release?  Carbohydrate foods such as: grains, whole grains, legumes, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, fruit, low fat yogurt, fat free milk.  Sound familiar?  You are right…these are the very foods we tell people to focus on when following a low fat, low cholesterol, low calorie diet.  This trend toward increased carbohydrate and low fat has caused increased insulin and fat stores in over 50% of overweight people.

To determine if you have traditional metabolism or Metabolism B:
Check routine fasting lab work
Personal subclinical symptoms
Family and personal medical history
