PC users downloading free Facebook themes may find themselves downloading a little something extra.

Aug. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- An increasing number of PC users have been experiencing difficulty with a specific type of malware that hijacks, or takes over a user’s default home page.  One in particular seems to be attracting an increasing amount of attention: StartSearcher.com

StartSearcher.com appears to be connect to free Facebook theme installations and is downloaded without the users’ permission.

This program actually changes your browser configuration settings at the code level, so that even when you attempt to change your home page back to one you want, it keeps reverting to StartSearcher.com.

Users will know right away if they have been effected by this if when they click on the 'Home' icon or start their browser and are taken to StartSearcher.com instead of the homepage previously set (ie default browser).  There appears to be no way to change this setting and can be extremely frustrating and time consuming to attempt to remove.
PC HelpSoft has put together a handy removal guide and is available on our site for anyone to use.
