Washington, DC Metro artist Mary Gallagher Stout to exhibit at West Shore Gallery's grand opening

Aug. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Wormleysburg, PA - Mary Gallagher Stout, an artist from the Washington, DC Metro area will be exhibiting at the Grand Opening of West Shore Gallery and will be featured for the month of September at the Wormleysburg venue. Stout is known for her expressionist paintings and recent plein air works of famous sites of DC entitled "REAL Life Drawing - My Eye on Washington, DC" published this month by Sunbury Press. She is also known for her many instructional videos at monkeysee.com.

Many of her paintings and pastels that are featured in the book will be for sale. The exhibition will also include numerous recent works and items from her lace series. Prices range from  very affordable to several thousand dollars.  

Mary currently lives in Stafford, VA and is based at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. While her recent works are generally acrylic on canvas, the plein air work in DC was very different. Said Stout:

"My work is typically intimately connected to the materials of which it is created on or from. For example, all the works in the project - REAL Life Drawing: My Eye on Washington, DC were created atop of the Washington Post necessarily.  The series is about recording and reporting what is actually happening in DC today.  I chose the Post as my material because I was thinking about how we get our news.  I noticed that we are getting further and further away from primary sources. We get all of our news 2nd and 3rd hand.  I thought it would be more meaningful to sketch first hand observations on the 2nd hand material - the Post.  I gessoed the paper on either side to blur the existing text and then spattered the primary colors to represent me…the artist as the primary source."

West Shore Gallery will be opening its doors for business the week of August 30th. Mary Gallagher Stout's exhibition is slated to begin Friday September 3rd and run through September 30th. The Gallery will be hosting a Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday September 4th. Many door prizes will be awarded to those who attend the opening, register for prizes and win the drawings. There is no purchase necessary. Participants must be 18 years or older to win.
