Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Transcom's GPS tracking technology enabled police to recover a stolen council vehicle, apprehend the offender and locate and attend to an injured employee. The technology is a life saver, says Fleet Operations Manager. Our security officers are tasked to patrol designated areas of the community suburbs on a 24/7 basis. During the course of his duty our ranger security & safety officer was attacked viciously for no apparent reason but to steal his vehicle; he was dragged from his vehicle and assaulted. The offender drove off with our Council vehicle and fortunately for us, it had a Transcom MCG3000 GPS tracking device installed for asset tracking, and mobile and personnel security, the MCG3000 device was fully operational. The device was well concealed and was not noticed by the offender. Our Command Centre contacted the Police and commenced tracking the stolen vehicle; and in coordination with the Police directed them to the location of the stolen vehicle and updated the Police as to its movements. The Police closed in on the offender and routed the vehicle which tried to evade them by ramming another truck on the road, this failed and the Police cornered the offender and using a Taser weapon disabled him. The offended was hand cuffed, arrested and taken to the Police lockup for questioning and later that week attended Court for sentencing. The Council employee has since recovered from his ordeal and has expressed sincere thanks to Transcom for the MCG3000 GPS technology being critical to coming to his aid and for the recovery of a public asset. GPS technology is proving itself to be an essential tool for field staff safety and fleet security management around the clock.
