VolunteerSpot Helps Carmel School District Win Big at Pebble Beach

Online Tool Organizes Volunteers to Make a Difference at US Open with $100,000 Impact to the School District

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- VolunteerSpot, the free online tool designed to make mobilizing and organizing volunteers as easy as the click of a button, recently made a $100,000 difference in the Carmel Unified School District when they were contacted by a local golf course to help provide volunteers for a tournament. But this was not just ANY golf tournament -- the golf course was Pebble Beach, and the event was the 2010 U.S. Open, which brought more than 250,000 spectators during championship week.

The small Carmel Unified School District (with roughly 2,000 students) was asked to fill 1,800 eight-hour shifts in the food service tents, which translates into more than 14,000 volunteer hours. Through VolunteerSpot, (http://www.VolunteerSpot.com/school) the school district staffed eight food service tents for seven days for over 14 hours a day. The school district also took advantage of VolunteerSpot’s automatic e-mail reminders to save a lot of time and energy.

Because VolunteerSpot makes it easy organize volunteers, scheduling went off without a hitch, and the participants did a phenomenal amount of work, feeding approximately 50,000 customers per day. Best of all, this small school district just cashed a check for $100,000.

“It would have been much, much harder without VolunteerSpot,” says Matthew King, Carmel Unified School District US Open Committee. “We had a very small organizing committee and were faced with the choice of working hard  -- making hundreds of phone calls, writing down volunteers contact information by hand and scheduling volunteers one-by-one – or working smart and having volunteers schedule themselves through VolunteerSpot. We chose working smart!”

“This is one powerful and inspiring example of creative partnerships in volunteering to help fund our schools,” said Karen Bantuveris, Founder & CEO, VolunteerSpot. “We were thrilled to hear how effective VolunteerSpot was in this case, and we urge other groups to take advantage of our site, especially now as schools need parents to help out more than ever before due to massive budget cuts across the country.”
