Aug. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Kennesaw, GA - August 4, 2010.  BPD Outreach Atlanta will be providing free support groups for people with Borderline Personality Disorder and their family, friends and loved ones in the Metro Atlanta area beginning August 12, 2010.  These meetings will happen on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Circle, Acworth, GA 30101 in the Education Building from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.  These meetings are free and the public is invited to attend.

BPD Outreach Atlanta was started in 2007 by a group of people with Borderline Personality Disorder who wanted more support from their peers outside of a therapy setting.  They decided to start a peer-led support group for themselves at a local church.  As they met, they found that their caretakers (parents, spouses, etc.) were meeting in the lobby at the same time talking about their challenges.  It was discovered that a need for both sufferers of Borderline Personality Disorder and their loved ones to express their joys, challenges, and to get support from one another existed.  BPD Outreach Atlanta support groups are led by peers - not by therapists, although BPD Outreach Atlanta has medical advisors on their board of directors, and information shared in groups is always treated in a non-judgmental and confidential environment.

BPD Outreach Atlanta also has an education and advocacy component, participating in community events to educate the public about Borderline Personality Disorder, promoting workshops and events to educate its members, recommending medical treatment and being a source of information to the community on treatment options, and periodically holding workshops free to the public on various topics relating to Borderline Personality Disorder.  Such topics include how Borderline Personality Disorder is diagnosed and treated, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, medication management, complementary treatments, mindfulness training, and much more.
