Aug. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES, CA – In its ongoing effort to provide timely, relevant degree options to adult learners, Union Institute & University (UI&U), a private, non-profit university with centers located in Los Angeles and Sacramento, today announced the launch of the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management (HCM).

Union’s new health care management major is ideal for individuals employed as medical and health service mangers, medical and public health social workers, RNs, LPNs, LVNs, medical assistants, and others employed in health care who wish to apply their clinical knowledge and background in a new role as leaders in health care administration. UI&U’s program prepares learners to serve as managers, administrators and directors in facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, physician practices, and insurance organizations.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health care will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population (http://www.bls.gov/oco/cg/cgs035.htm). Of the twenty fastest growing occupations today, eight of them are in health care. “Union consistently graduates learners who go on to be leaders in fields like criminal justice management and emergency services management,” said Dr. James Rocheleau, associate provost of special projects at UI&U, and former dean of the California centers.”We are excited that now we will be able to graduate learners who will provide leadership in health care management.”

Learners who enroll in UI&U’s the health care management program may be able to transfer up to 72 semester credits from other regionally accredited college or universities, making it possible for them to graduate in as little as 19 months. The delivery format is designed to allow the learner to successfully achieve their educational and professional goals while maintaining their commitment to job and family. Learners attend on-ground classes that meet once a week for five-week sessions, and the maximum class size is 20 learners. Courses are taught sequentially with the same group for the duration of the program by professionals who are leaders in healthcare management.

Union is now accepting applications for HCM programs beginning the week of September 1, 2010, January 3 and May 2, 2011. For more information about UI&U’s Health Care Management program contact Dr. James Rocheleau and the HCM team at 800-899-8501 or at hcm@myunion.edu.
