Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Ormond Beach, Florida.  You can’t really call him a “legacy”, but Teddy Simmons is the second student from the Bahamas to enroll in flight training at Sunrise Aviation in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Teddy received his Private Pilot Certificate on Saturday, July 31st, the first rating in a series of many more.  He now begins training toward the instrument rating.

The first student from the Bahamas at Sunrise Aviation was Lavan Paul.  Lavan now flies as a first officer for Western Air, one of the airlines there.  You can "blame" Lavan for Teddy Simmons coming to Sunrise Aviation.  He recommended Sunrise Aviation since Lavan had such a good experience there in 2008.

Teddy Simmons has wanted to be a pilot since as far back as he can remember.  And he can remember all the way back to age 3 when his father used to take him to the airport in Nassau.  His father would take him to the viewing area near the airport to watch the planes landing and taking off.  Teddy was born and raised in The Bahamas. He is now just 18 years old, but that is old enough to be a commercial pilot either in the USA or the Bahamas.
Teddy says he likes the speed of the airplane the best.  He said the most difficult maneuver so far in his training was learning the stalls.  But Teddy has now mastered the stall maneuvers, even if they are still not one of his favorites.

Teddy has now flown cross-country flights to several new airports including Gainesville and Melbourne, Florida.  He especially likes Melbourne now but looks forward to experiencing many more new airports in the next phase of training.

Teddy says the move from the Bahamas to Florida was easy.  The weather in Florida is similar to home – except hotter this time of the year.  But he is looking forward to getting back.  There are 12 airlines in the Bahamas and many of them are hiring.  Teddy would not mind following in the foot steps of Lavan Paul as a pilot for Western Air, but at this point he is keeping his options open.  He already knows many pilots and flight attendants at the airlines in the Bahamas.  His gregarious personality will make him popular with his future passengers at whatever airline hires him.  He already has nearly 700 friends on his Facebook page which is dominated by discussions of aviation.

You’ll see Teddy Simmons soon in the cockpit of an airliner in the Bahamas!  Check back around the end of this year to see where he ends up.
