Acorn Media announces the release of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie on DVD for the 1st time in the UK

Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Maggie Smith won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in 1969’s The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, a film strangely never released on DVD before in the UK which has now been given a release by Acorn Media UK.

The film was based on the novel of the same name written in 1961 by Muriel Spark and garnered worldwide public and critical success culminating in the Oscar awarded to Maggie Smith in what became her most famous role, notwithstanding a late career flourish with the Harry Potter films.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is set in Edinburgh, 1932 with the world is on the cusp of change and at the forefront, leading the charge is the estimable Miss Brodie, teacher at the Marcia Blaine School for girls.

Meanwhile Miss Brodie’s personal life is not so clear cut, torn as she is between the passionate advances of a young married artist, and the more conservative desires of a mature associate, she nevertheless manages to walk a strident path somewhere between the two.

But Miss Brodie’s philosophy for living rubs up against the school’s rigid moral standards, and when one of her young charges is inspired into a tragic act of foolhardy bravery, an act of almost religious betrayal follows that will shake the firm convictions of Miss Brodie to the core.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie stars Maggie Smith, Robert Stephens, Pamela Franklin, Gordon Jackson and Celia Johnson and comes with some excellent extra’s including the 2 original theatrical trailers, cast and crew filmographies and a biography of the novelist Muriel Spark.
