Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- It is Costa del Sol's favourite son, dubbed their capital city: Malaga is a city located south central of Costa del Sol, making it an ideal part of the region.  The birthplace of Picasso, the cosmopolitan city of Malaga lies on the beautiful sweep of bay in Andalucia and is blessed with sunshine and a spectacular quality of light.  It is a city with wide boulevards, swaying palm trees, lively night life, good museums and excellent seafood restaurants.

Due to the position of the city it has a good climate, it is protected from the north winds of the mountains.  It boasts some of the highest temperatures in Spain with over 300 days of sunlight per year.  But by the Mediterranean coastline the summer styled heat is regulated thanks to the sea breezes.  This is a more comfortable part of the city to stay and if you add to the fact that there are  blue flag standard beaches, you can see the reason why tourists pick that area to stay by.  Out of all the Costa Del Sol villas you can be rest assured that Malaga has some of the best.

The city is bidding to become the European Culture Capital in the year 2016 and they have good reason for it, as this is the birthplace for the acclaimed Picasso and the city pays homage to the fact that one of their people was such an talented artist.  The Casa Natal also known as the birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso has been made an official heritage site since 1983.  It is situated in Plaza de la Merced, that is in the heart of the historic centre of Malaga.  This place has been opened to the public since 1988, it has exhibition rooms, as well as pictures and a view of how life was for the artist in his early years in Malaga.

There is also a museum near his birthplace called the Picasso Museum.  This was opened on the 27th October 2003 and on the first day opening of the museum almost 2,000 people visited the museum.  The museum is housed in the Palacio de Buenavista which in itself is an important national monument.  It is right around the corner from the Casa Natal.  This is a key location as it is close by other important places such as the Gibralfaro castle.  This is a castle that was built in the 14th and 15 centuries, there is also the  Malaga Cathedral which has been painstakingly restored to befit the importance of the works of Picasso.

There are loads of other historic monuments in the city including the Baroque Cathedral which is well known as ‘La Manquita’ (One Armed Woman), this refers to the fact that it has a lopsided appearance which is due to the missing east bell tower.  High on the hill above the city is the Parador (state run hotel) of great historic importance. It use to be a Moorish castle but now is a wonderful place to have a long lunch or to stay over night as it has beautiful paranormal views over Malaga city and out across the sea port.

The city is an amazing culture hub as there are loads more that haven't been mentioned such as the many churches in and around the centre. You can see why they are bidding to be called the European capital of the culture as they have plenty of to boast.
