Follow on Google News | Jennifer O'Connor Music Night ReceptionThe music of Jennifer O'Connor, singer and songwriter, will be featured at an Artists' Reception at the Red Bluff Art Gallery on Friday, August 6th, 5-8 PM.
Her original music and delivery style is honest and natural. She speaks about everyday life and love; and she does it in a way that leaves you feeling you must be “Facebook friends”. Her voice, whether alone and soft or with a full back-up band and urgency, is catching. It has been described by some as “the voice of an angel”. Couple that voice with open, honest lyrics and sweet melodies and you will quickly find yourself falling in love with this amazing artistry. Jennifer is working on a new CD right now, her fifth in a collection that seems to get better with every release. Building upon the fine indie-rock tradition of song of the 1990s (such as Smog, Spinanes and Mark Eitzel), Jennifer released a self-titled debut album (2002), followed-up with The Color and the Light (Red Panda, 2005). She debuted on the Matador label, with Over the Mountain, Across the Valley and Back to the Stars (2006) and then released Here With Me in 2008. Some artists seem to run out of material and drive as time goes on, but this isn’t the case with Jennifer. Her body of works grows, not just in numbers, but in dimension and appeal. Her audience is also growing. She says that it includes a little bit of everything, including “soccer moms, hipsters, English fops, toddlers, Bushwick lesbians, nu-folk chicks, French new-wavers and indie nerds among her ballooning fan base.” Her wide appeal is based on many factors – that angelic voice, those honest lyrics, the sweet melodies – and the “timelessness” Asked about her latest CD “Here With Me”, she comments that it is partially about “people I've lost - they stay with me in my heart and mind." “Ironically, once you hear Jennifer sing, I can pretty much guarantee that she will always be in your heart and mind – complete with those thoughtful songs and that angelic voice,” says Gallery Director Phil Dynan. Jennifer O’Connor Music Night will feature music from her four CD’s. Jennifer will not be in the gallery for the event. But come to meet former Disney-artist Angela Edmonds, and see her exhibit “Animals in Action” and her original animation, “The Running Horse”, while you listen to O’Connor’s music. The Artists’ Reception & Music Night will be held at the gallery on Friday, August 6th, from 5-8 pm. Also opening the same night is a new art exhibit by Emily Thing, a New York abstract painter. Dress is casual and everyone is welcome. There is no charge to attend.
