July 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Branson, MO - Table Rock Dam tours resumed on July 3rd at Table Rock Lake in Branson, MO for the first time in almost 9 years.  The tours had been discontinued for security concerns after the attacks on the World Trade Centers in New York City on September 11, 2001.

Access to the interior portion of the dam at Table Rock Lake (http://www.explorebranson.com/lakes/tablerocklake.php), including the hydroelectric power plant, is now possible again thanks to the efforts of the Ozarks Rivers Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports the Army Corps of Engineers in Missouri.

Though the Table Rock Dam tours have continued, they are doing so with several new restrictions.  The tour guides must pass an FBI background check, and visitors to the facility must be American citizens who are older than six years old and able to climb up and down the 156 steps on the tour.  Visitors are also prohibited from bringing any personal items on the tour, such as cell phones, cameras, purses or backpacks.

The tours take place several times a day and may be taken solely of the dam facility, or as part of one of the Table Rock Duck Tours.  Reservations are recommended as the size of the tour groups is limited to 15 people.

Opened in 1959, Table Rock Dam, Missouri's tallest dam, is located on the White River six miles southwest of Branson.  In addition to serving its two main purposes of providing flood control and hydroelectric power to the region, the dam created Table Rock Lake, which  over the years  has played a pivotal role in drawing visitors to Branson.

With its pristine waters, almost 800 miles of shoreline, 1200 campsites, and dozens of resorts, marinas and restaurants, Table Rock Lake is a natural magnet for campers, boaters, skin-divers, and other outdoor enthusiasts.

The lake is also nationally recognized for its year-round recreational fishing.  Crappie, bass, catfish and bluegill are caught in abundance and most of the resorts in the area can arrange fishing guides for the weekend anglers who want to land a big one while on vacation.  In addition, competitive fishermen can participate in the hundred of tournaments that take place on the lake each year.
