Wavecade reaches financial success on Android with My Paper Plane 2 game.

July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Wavecade reaches financial success early with a casual, android-exclusive game.  In My Paper Plane 2, players pilot their paper plane through 5 visually stunning 3d courses, while collecting stars, boosts and power-ups. The game has been netting hundreds of dollars per day for the 2 man team.

Wavecade has turned profit early by staying focused on keeping production costs low and keeping feature-creep to a minimum.  Open source software was used to create the game's 3d worlds, and cartoon art style was picked for relative ease of production and general appeal. The gameplay mechanic was distilled down to the most essential elements, keeping only those that added to the fun and dropping anything that seemed superfluous.  Wavecade overcame “android fragmentation” by designing a game that runs well on the slowest of android phones and gives the smoothest, most fluid experience of all android games on high-end devices.

Many great-looking games were killed by awful tilt controls, Wavecade has made it a point not to fall into this trap.  Controls had to be simple enough to be enjoyed by every android user, not only the hard-core players.  While sporting great graphics, most of development time was spent on refining controls and gameplay.  In fact, Wavecade has created a 3d flying experience so refined that most reviewers count it as one of the best examples of accelerometer use on any mobile device, including the IPhone.

Since it’s release the game has been featured on Android market and has been steadily gaining audience, proving that it is indeed possible to make serious money as an indie game developer on the Android platform.
