Nightsociety teams with the Ninety Degree Foundation to help Saint Louis Youth

A peer is defined by Webster’s dictionary as being one that is of equal standing with another : equal; especially : one belonging to the same societal group particularly based on age, grade, or status.
The problematic phrase being societal group, the young men and women in our communities have no choice but to follow in the same direction as their peers. This is a direct result of a lack of leadership among our communities. We are quick to label them as unsalvageable, and leave their fates to a society that does not hesitate to make them victims of system that has historically proven to embrace the “haves”, while turning their backs on the “have-nots” We continuously fail to interact with our children on a level playing field, in an environment where dialogue is not only encouraged… but recognized as a essential part of the urban community.
The Ninety Degree Foundation is a Non for Profit organization geared towards community involvement and youth empowerment. Our goal is to improve the lives of children through fundraising, events, donations, and activities that raise their awareness in terms of making the right life choices, and the consequences of making the wrong choices. As children mature into young adults, they are tested by their peers, superiors, and society as a whole. It is our responsibility to give them as much information as possible so that when the time comes they can potentially be informed well enough to make the right decisions.
The Ninety Degree Foundation is preparing to launch its latest community project, “Grooming for Life.” Grooming for Life is an event that brings young men and women in direct contact with career professionals in a socially acceptable atmosphere within our communities, being the local barbershop/beauty salon. The children will receive free grooming (haircuts, basic hair care, nail grooming, etc) while at the same time having the opportunity to interact with some of the areas best lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, professional sports players and other. The children will have an opportunity to discuss everything from a day in the child’s life, to the most current events. The focus of this event is to show our children the faces of some of the most rewarding (morally, ethically, and financially) professions are the same faces they see everyday, that these professions are attainable, and that those who have achieved, have done so under similar circumstances; faced with similar obstacles.

It is often said that every bad decision made, was always one smile or kind word short of the right one. We believe that with the right support and enough action anything is possible, and with just that we can give these children an opportunity to make the right decision in regards to some of the most important choices of their life. The success of Grooming for Life can be one of many efforts to show our youth the right path and encourage them to take it, become leaders instead of followers, and ultimately reverse the trend of school dropouts, fighting, gang activity, and using drugs.
We would love to work with anyone who is serious about saving lives and improving the quality of life in our communities.
