July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Carolina Laiz Suardiaz and Antonio Ciudad Fernández from Madrid were the lucky winners in a competition organised by Visit Britain and Visit Wales in conjunction with Swansea Council.  The competition celebrated the Spanish premier of the film ‘Edge of Love’, which was filmed in West Wales and explored the lives of the women in Dylan Thomas’s life.

Anne and Geoff Haden provided the focus of the prize at the lovingly restored 5 Cwmdonkin Drive, Dylan’s birthplace and childhood home.  Anne and Geoff also acted as hosts to Carolina and Antonio taking them on a breathtaking tour of this beautiful area.

Covering a lot of ground in one weekend, amongst the places they visited were Mumbles and Oystermouth Castle, Oxwich Castle and King Arthur’s Stone.  Antonio is an archaeologist and Carolina a historian, so they were very interested in visiting historic sites and hearing the stories surrounding them and both enjoyed the views. Anne Haden said ‘we had a magical weekend, Carolina and Antonio were obviously blown away by what our area has to offer and we made sure they experienced as much as possible over the weekend, but still had time for a relaxing break – and lets finally put to rest that old saying that it always rains in Wales! – Antonio found Rhossili too hot and enjoyed a local beer to cool him down!

The prizewinners were clearly delighted by their weekend break in Swansea Bay, Mumbles and Gower and were quite at home in Dylan’s house, cutting slices of bara brith for the journey home.  ‘We will definitely return; we had no idea that Swansea Bay had so much to offer and such magnificent countryside.  We will tell all our family and friends about our fantastic trip.’

Cllr Graham Thomas said ‘it sounds as if Antonia and Carolina had a wonderful long weekend and saw the very best that Swansea Bay can offer.  This competition has helped us to raise the profile of the area; as Spanish visitors to the official destination website, visitswanseabay.com tripled during this promotion.  In addition, our prizewinners will act as important ambassadors for the area, after their very positive holiday experience.’
