List of Top Companies And Top Unknown Companies

While Fortune Global 500 lists the top companies, there are some totally unknown high flyers.

July 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Each year Fortune Magazine publishes its list of the world’s biggest companies. Top of the list this year is Wal-Mart Stores, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobil, BP, Toyota Motor, Japan Post Holdings, Sinopec, State Grid, AXA and China National Petroleum.

Among the biggest money earners on this year’s Global 500 is the oil company BP, closely followed by Wal-Mart and Microsoft.

Australia’s top companies are Woolworths, West farmers, BHP Billiton, Westpac Banking, National Australian Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, ANZ Bank and Telstra.
China’s leading companies are Sinopec, State Grid and China National Petroleum.

However there are large companies, with profit capacity, equal to or greater than the commonly known brand name companies.

Johnson Controls designs systems and components that operate car systems, including overhead and door controls for companies like GM, Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen.

Founded in 1885, the company has a turn-over of $128 billion and 130,00 employees. It’s the foremost producer of auto interiors for cars and light-trucks.

In 2009 they received the largest grant awarded by the United States Department of Energy, $299.2m, for building batteries for electric vehicles. It is the world’s leading battery manufacturer.

Ingram Micro has 13,750 employees and turns over $30b annually. It was established in 1979 and is the world’s largest wholesale technology dispenser, for desktops, notebooks, PC’s, storage devices, software and printers. Its 1,300 retailers include IBM, Nokia, Intel and Microsoft. It supplies goods to over 180,000 resellers around the world. Acting only as a middle-man it has no interest in public knowledge about the company.

Known mainly among teachers, TIAA-CREF is the number one retirement system for employees in the academic, research, medical and cultural fields. The company was formed in 1918, had 7,000 employees and turns over $26b. It is one of the largest financial services companies in the U.S., servicing around 3.7m people.

TJX was created in 1956 and has over 150,000 employees, turning over $20 billion, through its numerous stores, in the America, Canada and Europe. The company’s leading discount retailers include such names as J.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods and A.J. Wright.

Aramark Corp was established in 1936. Today it employs 250,000 people and turns over $12 billion. The company delivers food to many institutions such as courts, businesses, educational institutions, armed forces and health care providers. Its Correctional Services department offers 1million meals a day to over 600 correctional facilities.

Yum! Brands Inc was formed in 1997 has an $11b turnover and employs 49,000 people. It is the world’s largest restaurant chain by brand, operating over 37,000 restaurants, in over 110 countries. Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC and Long John Silver all work under the Yum! Brand banner.
