Kleinhandler Hammers Engel on Failed Stimulus

July 27, 2010 - PRLog -- West Nyack, NY –  At a voter forum on July 18 in West Nyack, Congressional Candidate York Kleinhandler questioned current 17th District Representative Eliot Engel's support and understanding of the Recovery Act that Engel helped pass.  

"Just the other day, Mr. Engel sent out a press release claiming that the Stimulus 'is responsible for creating or saving more jobs than originally thought.'  I, for one, would like to know what stimulus program the Congressman is looking at" Kleinhandler told the crowd.  "Our nation's unemployment rate is higher than it was before the Stimulus was passed; government data shows the private sector has a net loss of three million jobs since the Stimulus was passed; and some Americans are receiving unemployment benefits for record periods of time.  While this “Jobs Saved or Created” statement might make Mr. Engel a favorite of Nancy Pelosi, the fact remains that the statement distorts the reality of our economic troubles in hope of avoiding voter backlash this fall.  These types of statements show how much Congress disrespects the voter's intelligence. The truth of the matter is that this disrespect is par for the course with this Congress and Congressman Engel has voted almost 100% the time with Pelosi as Speaker. This district needs a Representative in Congress, not a mouthpiece for a failed, ultra liberal policy.  Our economy and future depends on it."
