Follow on Google News | Bike the Byway Event Scheduled for AugustThe Mohawk Towpath National Scenic Byway will hold a "Bike the Byway" event on Saturday, August 28, 2010, which is free and open to the public.
The "Bike the Byway" event explores many historic and recreational opportunities along the Mohawk Towpath National Scenic Byway. Points of interest include river valley vistas, the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, 19th century Erie and Champlain Canal features, current-day operating canal facilities, Falls View Park in Cohoes and Waterford's harbor area. Byway volunteers will provide commentary and interpretation at refreshment stops where ride participants will regroup. The ride will start at the entrance to the Colonie Town Park on Schermerhorn Road. The location can be reached from U S Route 9 via Old Loudon Road in Colonie. Information about membership in the Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club will be available. The Mohawk Towpath National Scenic Byway is a network of local, county, state and federal highways that follow the historic route of the Erie Canal from Waterford and Cohoes to Schenectady, NY. This year the Byway marks its 5th anniversary since being designated one of America’s Byways(R).
