July 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Washington County, FL, July 2010 - The DogSmith is a Dog Training and Pet Care Franchise company that aims to promote the principles of corporate social responsibility in its internal practices. The DogSmith is convinced that corporate social responsibility is a viable and necessary ‘best practice’ of its business model that motivates and unites its franchise owners.  The DogSmith does this through their Canine Rescue Resource Program (CRRP) which provides valuable tools, consultation, training, and volunteer hours to animal refuge facilities and rescue groups.

From its very inception The DogSmith business model was designed around what the founder, Niki Tudge, observed in her work cofounding an animal refuge and as a Humane Society Executive Director.  According to Tudge, “As a professional dog trainer and dog behavior counselor I noticed that a significant number of pet animals were being surrendered or abandoned because of easily fixed behavior problems.  Owners just didn’t seem to know where to go for help,” she said.  “I also noticed that many pet dogs adopted from shelters were being returned for these same behavior problems.  What was worse was that some of these problem behaviors were developed or increased while in a shelter environment.  We address these issues by providing our expertise to shelter groups at no cost,” said Tudge.

Tudge always believed she could develop a business concept that would include the commitment to support shelters and rescue groups with resources that would be otherwise unaffordable given their tight budgets.
“One of our main corporate missions is to minimize the number of abandoned and homeless dogs and cats,” said Tudge.  The DogSmith business model would also ensure that affordable, convenient and hassle-free dog training and pet care would be available to pet owners.  “In addition to the other resources we offer, we also provide free puppy classes to help owners get off to the best start possible with their new dog.  All of this, I believe, will greatly reduce the number of stray and abandoned pets in our communities,” said Tudge.

Corporate Social Responsibility is at the heart of The DogSmith’s Mission, Vision and Values which include their commitment to help ‘significantly reduce the number of unwanted pets by supporting animal shelters and rescue organizations, through their deeds, efforts and sponsorship.’  In addition to their active commitment to the animal rescue world The DogSmith’s home-based business model and pet waste cleanup service naturally minimize individual environmental impact and reduces the contribution pet waste makes to water pollution.
