July 21, 2010 - PRLog -- San Diego, CA, Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego received a $28,000 donation from the San Diego Enforcers as the team’s charity of choice for 2010. The funds will support programs and organizations that provide life saving mammograms for San Diego County’s uninsured and underinsured women.

“It has been a wonderful partnership and we look forward to growing the relationship next year,” said Sandy Rabourne, director of community development and outreach at Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego. “It is wonderful to have the organization support our cause, and our organizations are similar in our passion, drive and belief in the collective to do good things for our communities.”

The Enforcers participated in two major fundraising events for Komen San Diego this year. Players were auctioned off at the Cocktails for the Cure date auction held at The Palm in February. At this event lucky ladies were given the opportunity to bid on a date with one of San Diego’s finest, and the players also posed for photo opportunities and signed Enforcers calendars. In April, the Enforcer played against the New York City Fire Department in the Fourth Annual Hero Bowl. At the game they honored attending breast cancer survivors by inviting them onto the field during half-time. All proceeds from both events benefitted Komen.

The San Diego Enforcers are Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, San Diego’s second largest third party donor. They have also chosen Komen San Diego as their charity of choice for 2011.

“Many of our players weren’t even aware that breast cancer can and does affect men,” said Jason Sullivan, president of the San Diego Enforcers. “What made this partnership most rewarding was the education that our players and organization underwent, as we became more aware of breast cancer and the effect it has on so, so many people.”

Comprised completely of San Diego County law enforcement officers, paramedics and firefighters, the Enforcers are members of the National Public Safety Football League and compete against other public safety football teams from across the country to raise money for charities. This year the Enforcers selected Susan G. Komen for the Cure ®, San Diego as the cause they wanted to support, and they were able to make a significant and lasting impact on Komen’s mission to eradicate breast cancer forever.
