PRLog -- General Electric has reported results for its second quarter ended June 30th. During the quarter, NBC Universal’s profits were up 13% to $607 million from $539 million in the same period last year, driven mainly by strong ratings and advertising sales that jumped by 20% compared to the same period in 2009. Quarterly revenues increased by 5% to $3.75 billion. In addition, segment profit generated by NBC Universal’s cable networks, led by USA, Bravo and Syfy, rose 10% and CNBC’s profits was up 9% according to Keith Sherin, GE’s Chief Financial Officer: “We saw continued strength in the ad markets,” Sherin said.
At NBC-owned and -operated TV stations, ad revenue expanded 25% in the three months through June, following a 15% improvement in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Universal Studios “had a better performance”
in the second quarter according to Sherin, GE CFO. The film and theme-parks unit, mired in a long slump, posted a 6% increase in revenue.
