Follow on Google News | So You Think You're Thrifty: Goodwill Contest Seeks "Thriftiest" Shopper in Southwest FloridaBargain hunters, coupon clippers, and discount divas will strut their stuff at Goodwill Retail & Donation Centers across Southwest Florida, as the agency presents the 2010 "So You Think You're Thrifty" contest. The contest begins July 20, 2010.
“Last year, we had about 40 people audition for the title,” says Kirsten O’Donnell, Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations. “Since then, we’ve had a steady stream of people asking if we’d do the contest again this year, so we should have a great turnout.” The 2009 winner was Amy Burns, a then 18-year-old student from Sanibel, who says she’s excited to see this year’s crop of contestants. “I look forward to getting tips from the best of them," she says. "I just can't wait to see the 'final four' for this year's competition. It will be like experiencing all the excitement over again, but this time from a spectator's point of view.” Contest entry forms are available at Goodwill's 24 Southwest Florida Retail & Donation Centers, and on Goodwill's website: http://www.goodwillswfl.org. Over the next two weeks, interview-style auditions will be held at six Goodwill locations. “We’re auditioning people from Port Charlotte down to Naples and across to Clewiston,” says O’Donnell. “We really want to make sure that everyone in Southwest Florida has a chance to try out.” A list of audition dates, times, and locations is on Goodwill’s website: http://www.goodwillswfl.org. Four finalists will be selected, and visitors to Goodwill's website will be able to watch videos of each finalists, like this one of last year's winner, Amy Burns: http://www.youtube.com/ Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. operates 24 retail and donation centers in Southwest Florida, in order to support its mission of helping people with disabilities and other disadvantages overcome their barriers to employment and independence.
