Acclaimed "Ludlumesque" Novelist James Houston Turner Launches New Writer's Blog

A WRITER'S LIFE: THE ROAD BETWEEN THE LINES is what Adelaide novelist James Houston Turner is calling his new writer's blog. And his first post is already stirring up controversy with its provocative title, "There is no God, says the Bible."

July 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Thriller author James Houston Turner was once so poor he had to live on jars of peanut butter given to him by a church. He has beaten cancer, been a smuggler behind the old Iron Curtain, been on a KGB watchlist, attended two National Prayer Breakfasts with the President of the United States, rubbed shoulders with Hollywood's A-list at the G'day USA black tie gala, toured coast-to-coast as one of America's first television chefs, and was once turned down for a job because he was too ugly (referring to the facial scars from his successful fight against cancer). When it comes to fiction, his writing has been compared to the late Robert Ludlum's, with his geopolitical thriller, The Identity Factor, now adapted for film.

The highs and lows of being a writer is what Turner's blog is all about. "But it's not about writing," he says. "It's about a writer -- this writer -- and what I think about those unique and ordinary experiences that make me who I am. It's about the actual day-to-day road I walk between the lines you read in my books: the funny side, the reflective side, the serious side, the pizza side. Yes, life is not so much like a box of chocolates as a good homemade pizza: you can fashion it pretty much how you like with the ingredients you've been given. Just don't get stuck on the ceiling."

Turner is not afraid of controversy. His novel, The Identity Factor, not only challenged the traditional Mosaic authorship of Genesis, but was set against the Arab/Israeli conflict over the ownership of Palestine. His blog's first post is no exception with its provocative title, There is no God, says the Bible. "I like stirring the pot now and then," he confesses. "Which is why my characters can sometimes be a little pushy. They're a bit like me."

Originally from Kansas but now living in Adelaide, South Australia, James holds a Bachelor's Degree from Baker University and a Master's Degree from the University of Houston. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his espionage thriller, The Second Thirteen, which is based on Department Thirteen, the actual assassination and sabotage unit of the old KGB.
