July 14, 2010 - PRLog -- The New Jersey Association of School Librarians is proud to announce its Annual Fall Conference, "School Libraries for Student Success," on Friday December 3rd and Saturday December 4th, 2010 at the Ocean Place Resort in Long Branch, New Jersey. The NJASL Annual Fall Conference is a learning and networking event for librarians working for student success.

Scheduling includes two full days of notable speakers, over thirty informative workshops each day on a variety of topics, including differentiated learning, literacy, library management, technology, standards, and literature, plus a variety of authors, illustrators and vendors to meet.

"Given the current state of school libraries, this event is not to be missed", said Fran King, NJASL President-Elect and 2010 Conference Chair, “The Conference is a great value providing the kind of Professional Development that will keep librarians up to date with literature, technology and teaching skills."

On Friday December 3, 2010, the General Session Keynote is Buffy Hamilton, the school librarian behind “The Unquiet Library” at Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia. She is passionate about creating library experiences for her students that will encourage them to be lifelong learners and advocates for the power of the library in her community.

The Friday evening Banquet Keynote Speaker is Steven Kellogg presenting “The Art of the Picture Book”. Steven Kellogg is the acclaimed illustrator and author of over one hundred picture books and is a recipient of the prestigious Regina Medal for his lifetime contribution to children’s literature. When he is not creating books in his studio in Essex, New York, he is doing programs for children, parents, teachers, and librarians throughout the country. He says, “I want the time that the reader shares with me and my work to be an enjoyable experience – one that will encourage an enthusiastic lifetime association with pictures, words, and books.”

The Saturday Breakfast Keynote Speaker is Toni Buzzeo presenting “Collaborating from the Center of Your School Universe for Student Success". Imagine the school as a universe. While there is a temptation to imagine that we've reached a time of collapse in that universe, as federal law drives our practice and measures our outcomes, perhaps our schools will, instead, expand and grow in positive ways, our students' learning and achievement accelerating as they do. To ensure this positive outcome, the essential response of the school librarian is effective collaborative practice. Author and school librarian Toni Buzzeo will inspire attendees to collaborate from the center of your school universe.

"The entire conference committee and I are confident that attendees will gain valuable professional development and insight from this information-packed two-day conference. Come for the full conference or just one day.” adds King.
