Follow on Google News | East Midlands Youth Sport Festival Comes To NottinghamEast Midlands StreetGames Youth Sport Festival to take place in Nottingham during the official London 2012 Open Weekend, marking 2 years to go until the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
By: press@streetgames.org StreetGames, a national youth sports development charity, has teamed up with Sporting Futures, who are working to create safer communities through sport within Derbyshire, to organise the East Midlands StreetGames Festival. StreetGames helps local providers develop “doorstep sport” projects that allow young people to dictate what sports they want to play and how they want to play them. Consequently, a variety of sports will be available at the event, including football, Ultimate Frisbee and street dance. The ethos of StreetGames is to provide sport in disadvantaged communities where young people often miss out on opportunities to participate. This national charity works with Sporting Futures in the East Midlands to assure that these sports sessions are widely available. Ben Rigby, Community Sport Development Officer for Sporting Futures, said of the festival: “It’s brilliant to be involved in such a positive event. It demonstrates our commitment to providing free and easily accessible sports for young people in the East Midlands area. I’m sure everyone involved will have a great time and hopefully it will have a lasting effect on the communities and people involved.” Carrying the London 2012 Inspire Mark for its Legacy Leaders programme, StreetGames continues to grow and develop doorstep sport projects across the East Midlands and the rest of England and Wales. What will be a fun and exciting day for young people in and around the Nottingham area will also mark an increasing determination to provide sport to all young people no matter what their circumstances. # # # StreetGames is an award winning national charity launched in 2007. A national partner of Sport England and a national centre of expertise for developing sport in disadvantaged communities, the charity helps to make sport accessible to all young people, regardless of their income or social circumstances, It does this by supporting and establishing local projects around the UK that deliver doorstep sport, i.e. positive activities and sport provided to young people when they want it, where they want it and how they want it. Over 1million attendances have already been generated by StreetGames projects. StreetGames’ End
