July 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Some say "going green" while others prefer "sustainability". Sustainability is becoming more critical globally and presents a baseline requirement for the healthcare industry just like in any other industry. Is it really all about going green? It really is all about competing in a new world.

Healthcare leaders from up to sixty countries will come together September 22-24th, 2010 in Los Angeles to discuss new projects and opportunities in hospital development and sustainable healthcare development at the Sustainable Healthcare and Hospital Development Conference http://www.healthcaredevelopmentconference.com.

"With the demand by the world population for high quality healthcare, healthcare systems around the world simply can't keep up with the demand. This is leading to a boom in investment and development of healthcare facilities, and investment in advanced technologies and systems. Many healthcare facilities are focusing on a sustainable approach to reduce costs in the long term and have less of a negative impact on the environment, "said Renee-Marie Stephano, Editor of the Sustainable Healthcare and Hospital Development Magazine.

Governments, healthcare investors and private equity firms are investing in healthcare and hospital development throughout the world. Most of this development has a strong focus on being sustainable. The demand for healthcare around the world is resulting in billions of dollars being invested in the development of new sustainable healthcare facilities.

Sustainable workplace is one of responsibilities of owners and management. They have to apply, adjust and control different strategies during the life cycle of the project. As a result, an organization might gain a benefit on cost savings such as energy efficiency, alternative energy systems and location strategies for consolidation, adjacency requirements and utilization studies of the core functions i.e. ambulatory care, inpatient bed area.

The Sustainable Healthcare and Hospital Development Conference www.healthcaredevelopmentconference.com is the first international healthcare conference focused on healthcare executives, investors of healthcare projects, and government officials involved in the developing and designing of healthcare projects and sustainable healthcare projects that are "Green", such as hospitals, clinics, medical parks, and medical offices worldwide.

Henning Lensch, Chairman of the Hospital Planning Group, Association for German Consulting Engineers and Architects, VBI states, "This conference shall present the latest developments and lessons learned (feasible and practical solutions) for green hospitals. In the developed world, only green hospitals with a sustainable approach will survive. The patient wants to be treated in a healing environment, and this environment has to present the latest energy saving and healing environment features. For the hospital, only a green and energy saving approach will reduce the running costs for energy and in the same time, influence the staff and patients."

Within conference, a Global Ministerial Healthcare Reform Conference and a Ministerial Roundtable will address how each country is dealing with its own healthcare crisis and healthcare issues, and how they are reforming healthcare in their country to provide quality and affordable healthcare. The Ministerial Summit will also focus on healthcare development in their country and developing healthcare in a sustainable way. www.healthcarereformsummit.com

Lensch adds, "Germany was and is maybe still leading in the area of green and energy saving solutions, but they have to be more customized to the healthcare market. One big challenge for Germany at the moment: the refurbishment and upgrading of existing old hospitals to renovated green healing environment facilities. Like in the US, there is a growing demand for green and sustainable solutions, green hospitals, but for a reasonable price, since we do have still major public hospitals, but also a growing number of private hospitals."
