Follow on Google News | Playtop Helps Old Trafford Celebrate 100th AnniversaryTo celebrate the centenary of Old Trafford Stadium, a time capsule has been buried at the iconic home of Manchester United Football Club – with a lid made from Playtop.
By: Lesley Pashley The capsule itself contained Manchester United memorabilia and was sealed by relatives of the 1910 United team and by the family of the then football club chairman, J H Davies, and the stadium architect Archibald Leitch. It was then buried close to the centre tunnel at Old Trafford, which is the only remaining part of the original stadium. Playtop has been used on the pitch surround and in the players' tunnel at Old Trafford since 2005. Originally designed for children's playgrounds and manufactured from recycled commercial-vehicle tyres and recycled sports shoes, Playtop is perfect for walkways due to its drainage and slip resistance properties. www.playtop.com # # # As part of the Charles Lawrence Group, the first Playtop® surface was laid in 1977. Playtop has since grown to become the world's leading supplier and installer of wet pour, impact-absorbing surfacing, principally used in children’s playgrounds. From its base in Newark, Nottinghamshire, Playtop has also established a worldwide network of licensees for its impact-absorbing surfacing. It now has licensees in over 40 countries. Over two million square metres of Playtop® have now been laid on playgrounds around the world in such prestigious sites as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, Euro Disney in France, the Emperor’s Gardens in Tokyo and Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. Playtop is a continuous, porous material made from rubber granules and polyurethane binders and is available in 26 colours and blends. It is mixed and laid on site as a wet-pour product and is immensely strong and durable, retaining its life-saving deformation properties over many years. End
