10th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival On The Camden New Jersey Waterfront

July 9, 2010 - PRLog -- The South Jersey Caribbean Cultural and Development Organization (SJCCDO), a 501c3 non-profit based in Camden, NJ is set to host the 10th Annual South Jersey Caribbean Festival at Wiggins Park on the Camden, NJ Waterfront on Saturday July 24, 2010 from 12pm to 8pm.

The South Jersey Caribbean Festival is a FREE community event that features local and international talent performing Reggae, Calypso, Latin and Steel Drum music. This year’s featured artist is world renowned Soca Queen, Alison Hinds from the beautiful island of Barbados. Hinds formerly lead singer for the Soca band Square One is known for her powerful, emotional vocals and high-energy live shows which are legendary in Caribbean music. Her hits include “Roll it Gal” and duets with several Jamaican artist such as Richie Spice “King and Queen”, Jah Cure “Call On Me” and Shaggy “Can’t Let My Love Go”.

Also, in celebration of the theme “Cultures of the Caribbean”, the event will also include traditional Caribbean cultural dancers performing indigenous dances rituals, craft and food vendors will have selections such as Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat and Shrimp, Roti, Rice and peas. Free arts and crafts activities will be available for the children in attendance.

The South Jersey Caribbean Festival is colorful representation of the cultural heritage of many area residents. It is an enriching and educational multicultural experience recognizing the diversity of the many islands of the Caribbean. The South Jersey Caribbean Festival exposes the regional community to world cultures and provides a positive safe environment for families.

The 2010 South Jersey Caribbean Festival honors individuals that contribute to progress and well being of Camden residents and the regional Caribbean community. The 2010 Honorees are Mr. Anthony D Lingo of the City of Camden Finance Department. Mr. Lingo will be given a Community Service Award for his diligence and dedication to people of Camden city and for his advocacy for the youth of Camden.

The artist lineup scheduled represents many “Cultures of the Caribbean” which includes the Philadelphia Pan Stars: Steel Pan Orchestra representing Trinidad and Tobago, Vincy Youth Group representing St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Nu Image Band and Know Your Culture dance ensemble representing Dominica, the Afro-Caribbean Cultural Ensemble representing Haiti and representing the indigenous Caribs of Belize and Honduras with a display of the dance and customs of the Garifuna people which are a UNESCO endangered culture.

The SJCCDO relies solely on donations and sponsors to present this FREE cultural experience to the community.
