| ![]() Jamaican Newspaper selects Harland SimonHarland Simon has once again expanded, this time into The Gleaner Company Ltd., in Jamaica. Following on from the successful start to 2010, Harland Simon has been contracted to replace the drives on a Goss Urbanite press.
By: John Staiano, Harland Simon plc At all times, the existing system will remain operational until the new system is fully tested and commissioned, which eliminates any risk to production. This method also keeps costs down while replacing all the vulnerable parts of the system. The solution is based on techniques that have been successfully developed for the replacement of many systems originally supplied by Goss, Rockwell Automation, manroland and Honeywell over the past 15 years. Ian Roxburgh, Gleaner Company’s Special Projects Manager commented, “This is the Gleaner Company’s second transaction with Harland Simon. In 1990’s the drive for our Crabtree Viscount letterpress was replaced by a H.S. drive which worked well. The present project promises to be an ideal retrofit, as there will be little or no down-time and the price is competitive.” John Staiano, Senior Vice President for Harland Simon, further commented, “This once again extends Harland Simon market coverage, a true testament to the reputation, unsurpassed knowledge of the printing industry and our commitment, performance and work ethics displayed on recent projects.” The project is due to be completed by the 3rd quarter of 2010.
