July 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Surprise, Arizona—Imagine Prep at Surprise’s students who participated in the KPRP Broadcasting Camp had the opportunity to visit over 20 different radio stations and meet with numerous broadcasting professionals including DJs, producers, news directors, and promotion specialists.

During the five day camp that ran June 28th through July 2nd students learned the fundamentals of producing and hosting a radio show.  The participants then put the lessons into practice by actually getting on air exposure on KPRP, Imagine Prep’s internet based radio station which is a member of the Kidstar Radio Network. The camp was organized by Lacee Collins, Imagine Prep media teacher and former sports broadcaster for Fox Sports Arizona.

“I always wanted to be a DJ but after participating in Imagine Prep’s broadcasting camp, I learned that the life of a DJ is not for me,” explained Asha Hart, eighth grade Imagine Prep student who attend KPRP Broadcasting Camp.  “When we took the field trip, I learned how overwhelming a DJ’s schedule could be…especially in terms of attending events for promotion. However, this experience did peak my interest in becoming a radio imager. I hope to attend the camp again next summer and look forward to participating in Media Club during the school year.”

Imagine Prep is extremely thankful to Bonneville International, Clear Channel, and Rivera Broadcasting for providing our students with the opportunity to meet with their staff and learn more about the broadcasting industry. Some of the highlights from the day long field trip include the opportunity to meet KFYI 550 AM’s morning team Barry and Michelle and every student was able to record their voice on air with Mix 96.9’s mid day DJ, AJ.

“Imagine Prep provides students with the opportunity to learn the skills that will prepare them for college, career, and life,” explained John Buzzard, Imagine Prep Principal. “Part of that is facilitating opportunities for our students to meet with industry professionals and learn about different career opportunities first hand.”

This fall Imagine Prep will have a week devoted to ‘preparing students for college, career, and life’ by organizing a career fair with area professionals, a college fair with college admissions staff, and a life fair complete with break-out sessions that will provide students with information about banking, purchasing a new car, renting, insurance, and various other life issues.  Anyone interested in participating or learning more about Imagine Prep’s College, Career, and Life Week is encouraged to contact Imagine Prep.

All Imagine Prep students have the opportunity to take media classes exposing them to radio and television broadcasting equipment as well as the techniques and skills necessary to excel in the broadcasting industry. Imagine Prep’s broadcasting technology includes a green screen, television camera, teleprompter, television editing equipment, KPRP radio station, and radio editing equipment.
