Twitter Success Could Pave Way For Others in Canadian Natural Health Industry

Canadian natural health products company Prairie Naturals took a gamble with Facebook and Twitter. According to one industry source, Prairie Naturals' social media success is likely to pave the way for others.

July 7, 2010 - PRLog -- When Prairie Naturals' general manager Deborah Callbreath decided to get the company active on Twitter and Facebook, she was met with some skepticism from an industry that isn't generally known for technological early adoption. But nearly a year later, she's glad she followed through on the opportunities that she believes social media offers.

The company has now successfully used social media channels twitter, facebook, and youtube to help launch new products, identify consumer fans and strengthen relationships with retail partners.

June 22 through 29 they hosted a 7 day herbal cleanse on twitter, with 20 participants tweeting about their experience in real time. The event featured ReCleanse, a Prairie Naturals distributed product.

The ReCleanse 7 Day Twitter Review announcement caught the attention of Integrated Health Retailer magazine (IHR) who recognized it as "An innovative marketing initiative" and went on to suggest "If this works out other companies will likely also explore using social networking tools."

A post-event analysis identified nearly 800 ReCleanse branded tweets... translating to an estimated half-million social media impressions. This kind of success is likely to fulfill the prediction of IHR magazine, encouraging other Canadian natural health products companies to take the plunge into social media marketing and communications.

This isn't the first time Prairie Naturals has scored a social media hit.

In January 2010 they introduced their FreeGum.ca twitter campaign to help promote the launch of their CulturedCare Probiotic Gum. The campaign sparked international interest in this new health product category, ultimately helping to land a feature article in the Vancouver Sun that went on to be picked up by dailies across Canada.

At the Canadian Health Food Association's Expo West convention and trade show in May, Prairie Naturals was honoured with the award for supplier innovation. The honour was awarded in part to acknowledge the leadership role that Prairie Naturals is taking in social media.

This summer Prairie Naturals is continuing on their social media winning streak, using facebook and twitter to promote their "Free Smoothies" campaign in the Vancouver and Toronto areas.
