July 1, 2010 - PRLog -- The Town Mayoress, Cllr Carolyn Kempe, who sits on the Hailsham Community Hall Management Committee and is Vice-Chairman of the Town Council’s Burials & Properties Committee, nominated the Hailsham Community Hall in Vicarage Lane as one of three local good causes to receive a share of the monthly donation.

The ‘Community Matters’ scheme aims to provide financial support to local causes and also inform Waitrose customers about the excellent work that these groups do for the good of the community.

The money raised will go towards the costs of improving the hall to ensure that the facility continues to be in good use for all sectors of the community which it serves.

The Hailsham Community Hall, owned by the War Memorial Institute Trust and run by the Hailsham Community Hall Management Committee and Hailsham Town Council, is currently home to a number of voluntary organisations for meetings and events, including the Hailsham Horticultural Society, Hailsham Photographic Society, Hailsham Choral Society, Hailsham Historical Society, Hailsham & District Flower Club, Short Mat Bowls and other regular users.

Receiving the cheque at a brief presentation in-store last week, Cllr Carolyn Kempe said, "We very much appreciate being the beneficiaries of this unique community fundraising scheme. This is a fantastic donation that will be wisely spent on upgrading the Hailsham Community Hall in the near future.”

“But it’s not just about the cash, it’s knowing that the people of Hailsham voted for the Hailsham Community Hall and value both the Management Committee and Town Council’s service to the community which is really gratifying.  I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to all members of the public who voted - and of course to Waitrose, who’s immense generosity made the donation possible.”

Anne Wilson, Branch Manager of Waitrose Hailsham, commented: “We’ve had an excellent response to our ‘Community Matters’ scheme and it has proved to be a fantastic way for our customers to join us in putting something back into the community in which we serve.”

“We are delighted to be supporting The Hailsham Community Hall as it is so well used by many groups of people in the local area.  We hope the money will enable them to continue offering their facilities to all who wish to use them.”
