June 30, 2010 - PRLog -- This year Gardeners’ Guild earned a First Place Award for its Sustainable Landscape Management Program at Spring Lake Village, Santa Rosa.  Spring Lake Village is a retirement community located on 30 acres of secluded and landscaped gardens, just east of Highway 101 in the heart of Sonoma County, just minutes from the Sonoma Valley.

The Sustainable Landscape was achieved through a large scale renovation, a water conservation program and a transition to using certified organic fertilizers and plant inoculants.  The renovation included the replacing a large lawn with lower maintenance ground cover, shrubs and trees.  To conserve water, the irrigation system was renovated which improved efficiency; meter readings are taken weekly to track water usage.  To amend the soil, large quantities of locally produced wood mulches were used.  Annuals were gradually replaced with the use of perennials which reduced fuel and production costs.

In addition to being recognized for its Sustainable Landscape Management program, Gardeners’ Guild also received two Recognition Awards: One, for the category of “Custom Residential installation” for a home in the Napa Valley. The other award was for the category of “Large Commercial Maintenance” for Whiskey Springs, a residential community in Sausalito.
