Cheryl Cole and Richard Branson come out top in £10k survey

What would you do if you won £10,000? During times of such economic uncertainty would you take the frugal route and save wisely or take a gamble and invest?

June 29, 2010 - PRLog -- According to the results of a survey commissioned by Edgbaston Cricket Ground, home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club (WCCC), the answer is neither.

Results of the survey found a massive 60 per cent of respondents said they would spend, spend, spend their winnings. First on their list of things to buy would be a far-flung sunshine holiday (60 per cent) followed by a splurge on getting their home in tip-top shape (20 per cent), a brand new car (17.5 per cent) or a wardrobe full of designer clothes (2.5 per cent).

And what a generous bunch we are – 55 per cent would donate a proportion of their winnings to a good cause and would help families and charities, interestingly, before friends (57.5 per cent, 33.5 per cent and ten per cent respectively).

Unsurprisingly, 50 per cent of people would be hugely excited with the prospect of an extra £10,000 in their pocket with 32.5 per cent feeling overwhelmed in knowing what to do with the cash and 17.5 per cent would feel a sense of relief.

Winning £10,000 would also enable us to copy the lifestyles of our favourite celebrities with pop star/TV presenter Cheryl Cole and entrepreneur businessman Richard Branson in joint first place (30 per cent each) followed by radio DJ Chris Evans (22.5 per cent), footballer Wayne Rooney (12.5 per cent) and entertainment mogul, Simon Cowell (five per cent).

James McLaughlin, commercial director for WCCC, said: “People have endured two of the most financially challenging years on record so we aren’t surprised to learn that the majority of us, should we come into £10,000, would choose to spend. However, the prospect of winning such a huge amount of money needn’t be a dream. Anyone who pre-books a ticket to watch The Bears and The Royals in t20 action on Friday 16th July will automatically be entered into a draw to win £10,000 meaning that far-away holiday could soon become a reality!

“And the prospect of watching spectacular sportsmen playing up-tempo t20 cricket is exciting enough, even if you aren’t lucky enough to win big!”

To celebrate this year’s Friends Provident t20 season, WCCC has launched a series of money-can’t-buy ‘Pirate Invasion’ competitions. Open to businesses across the West Midlands region, workers can win the chance to get ‘hijacked’ from their workplace by the pirate-clad BRMB Thunders and shipped to Edgbaston to watch a t20 match.

If your business would like to be in with a chance to watch The Bears in Friends Provident t20 action, visit www.t20.edgbaston.com or www.brmb.co.uk. Remember, anyone who pre-books a ticket to witness The Bears and The Royals match-up on Friday 16th July will automatically be entered into a draw to win £10,000!
