The internet is really big. It sounds like the world’s most obvious statement, but many businesses neglect to use the sheer size of the internet to its full potential in their marketing strategies.

June 28, 2010 - PRLog -- The internet is really big. It sounds like the world’s most obvious statement, but many businesses neglect to use the sheer size of the internet to its full potential in their marketing strategies. Being a powerful internet presence entails reaching out into all of the possible niches that relate to your business and ensuring that people notice you every day, whether they realise it or not. To advertise in the most effective way, you need to become a part of day to day life. We can’t all achieve this, but it is a good thing to aim for – and it is certainly true that the wider you spread your net, the more business you are going to win. Getting sales on the internet is not all about skill or clever tactics; it is also a numbers game, in which you need to continually increase the bredth of your advertising to make sure it is diverse enough to survive changes in your market. The question then is, “How do we know when our advertising is working?” – and this is the mystery towards which market research efforts have always been targeted. Market research is changing though, simply because markets are changing, and if you are not up to speed you are liable to be left behind.
Whereas market research used to be about standing in the street with a clip-board, or hoping that your customers “spare a few minutes to fill in a short questionnaire”, we must now recognise the fact that the internet has changed the face of business. People share their views every day – all the information is out there, and we simply need to know how to find it. If your business has an online component (or indeed, if you own an entirely online business) then it is likely that your business has already been reviewed somewhere. The trick is to be able to analyse a review and interpret how it affects your business, so that you can adapt your behaviour accordingly. If you have not already been reviewed, then you should rectify the situation immediately! Find someone who is willing to write you a short positive review, and watch how your sales pitch becomes more credible.
Increasing the power of your online publicity strategy involves ensuring that people are sharing their opinions about you online as often as possible. Parallel to this, it is about making sure that the majority of your online feedback is positive – because nothing will draw in business quite like a satisfied client. Together, these two tasks form the foundation of reputation management, which is an essential tool for building successful business online.
