June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- RINGWOOD, NJ. This week, the State of California announced that it is exploring the feasibility of switching to electronic license plates. Under Senate Bill 1453, authored by Senator Curren D. Price, Jr., the DMV will be authorized to partner with companies to research and develop the technology that can display both vehicle information and advertisements on a license plate.

Fortunately, such technology already exists, as REDflag™ Digital Display License Plates currently address the needs and requirements that Senator Price has proposed. In fact on June 22nd, when discussing California’s intentions, Bloomberg.com referenced the Electronic License Plate patent owned by REDflag inventor Dean L. Naddeo.

According to Naddeo, “Our electronic license plates have been in development for over 12 years, and have been patented for more than eight. I am grateful that Senator Price and the State of California are willing to take a look at this valuable and long overdue technology”.

The major advantages of these radically new license plates include a vivid and modern electronic display. Conventional license plates are often difficult to read, particularly under low light conditions. This problem often makes it impossible for victims of crimes and law enforcement officials to read and obtain the plate number, and this prevents positive identification of the vehicle and its occupants. To solve this problem, REDflag Digital Display License Plates provide a highly visible digital readout that highlights the issuing state, tag number and two additional key pieces of information that do not appear on a standard license plate: the vehicle’s registration expiration date, and the insurance status of the vehicle. REDflag plates are also capable of displaying state logos, special interest images, or even advertisements.

But the most innovative feature of the REDFlag design may lie in its ability to automatically receive and prominently display urgent messages from police computers, such as STOLEN, FELONY, AMBER or TERROR. Not only will this element assist in the rapid detection of criminals and lead to the swift recovery of stolen vehicles, everyday citizens will now be able to view these alerts, allowing them to call the police and simultaneously protect themselves by avoiding the occupants of the stolen or wanted vehicle.

“REDflag really does it all. The electronic display can simultaneously warn the public of dangerous vehicles, identify uninsured motorist, help locate missing kids, and display messages such as state logos or ads. Right now, our antiquated metal license plates do none of these things”, added Naddeo.

To further assist in the rapid detection of a stolen or wanted vehicle or if the apparatus has been tampered with or removed, a unique audible alarm will be sounded and an ignition disabling feature will be activated to prevent restarting of the vehicle once it has been shut off.
