June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Recent works by 19 talented contemporary artists fill the walls for the summer at Gallery One, one of the few galleries on the Shoreline featuring a mix of abstract and representational artwork. The exhibit features work in a broad range of mediums and styles that range from realism to expressionism of landscapes, portraits, still lifes and abstractions, in the form of photographs, prints, paintings and sculptures––something for everyone.

Gallery One sponsors a reception on the second Friday of every month when the artists are present. Come between 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on July 9 and August 13 and enjoy refreshments, the art and conversation with the artists.

Among the artists, Kay Knight Clarke, paints spare but intense oil paintings expressing the mystery, power and wonder of the sea and sky. Diana Rogers’ pure intense pastel pigments are a perfect complement to the colorful bounty of nature revealed in her reverent shoreline landscapes.

Fiber re-enters the work of Ashby Carlisle, more recently known for her magnified clay portraits of seed pods and shells, here strung on hand knotted linen cords in her piece titled Mermaid Necklaces.

The work of Elizabeth Boyd spans style, subject, size and media. Included in this exhibition are both her acrylic and pastel still lifes which have consistently garnered prizes in juried shows, and her richly complex and colorful grid-based collaged and painted abstractions.

Slightly further afield from the familiar are Judith Barbour Osborne’s monotypes
in which she gesturally and abstractly writes poetry and spiritual texts. The printing process requires her to write backwards which enhancing the verbal and the abstract aspects of the work.
