Summer Steelhead Limit Raised on Three Oregon Rivers

June 24, 2010 - PRLog -- 2011 Update: ODFW projects another strong summer steelhead run.

The ODFW decided there are plenty of summer steelhead to go around in 2010, with the run into the Willamette Valley so far about double the average runs during the previous five seasons.

The agency on June 18 began permitting anglers to harvest a third summer steelhead in the Willamette River below Willamette Falls, and in the sections of the Clackamas and Sandy rivers open to steelhead fishing.

The new three-fish limit may include all steelhead, or up to two of the fish may be fin-clipped salmon. The temporary bonus bag runs through Oct. 31 on the three rivers.

On the Willamette above the falls, as well as major tributaries including the Main, North and South Santiam rivers, McKenzie River and Middle Fork Willamette River, anglers already may keep a third fin-clipped steelhead under permanent regulations.
